Langua: Journal of Linguistics, Literature, and Language Education (ISSN 2623-1565) was established in 2018 and managed by English Education Program of Institut Sains dan Kependidikan (ISDIK) Kie Raha Ternate, Indonesia (formerly STKIP Kie Raha Ternate). In 2020, this journal was accredited by the Indonesian National Journal Accreditation (Arjuna) by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. This journal is accredited as a fifth level (of six levels) Science and Technology Index (Sinta 5th). To increase the quality of this journal as a journal that provides meaningful, useful, and responsible scientific and academic information, many attempts have been made to publish and manage the journal. Among the attempts is to set a clear scope and focus of the journal described as follows.
Scope and Focus
As the name suggests, this journal focuses on publishing articles discussing topics around linguistics, literature, and language education. Since 2018, this journal has published many articles with topics narrowed to English linguistics, English literature, and English language education. However, starting from 2024, we decided to consider other languages as well, as long as they are written in English. Additionally, the topic should be limited to the following foci:
- Theoretical linguistics;
- Applied linguistics;
- Systemic functional linguistics;
- Literature analysis;
- Second language acquisition;
- Foreign language teaching and learning;
- Language testing;
- Computer-assisted language learning;
- Artificial intelligence and language pedagogy;
- Language and Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS);
- Language learning models and strategies;
- Language teacher development;
- Language curriculum and material development;
- Language and neuro-psychology; and
- Language therapy;
Manuscripts that do not adhere to one of the foci will not be considered for review. Additionally, this journal does not consider the following submissions:
- Analyses of dialogs taken from movies, podcasts, or any other types of informal media;
- Analyses of song lyrics;
- Book reviews; and
- Advertisements
Publication Frequency
This journal publishes twice a year, namely April and October. To avoid delay in publication, the manuscript should be submitted at least three months before the publication schedule.
Sections
This journal accepts original article, literature review (specifically systematic literature review based on PRISMA or other frameworks), and student project.
Original article
Original article refers to a scholarly paper that presents new research, methodologies, or findings. It emphasizes the importance of creativity, novelty, and uniqueness in the creation of the content, distinguishing it from content that is copied, plagiarized, or heavily based on existing material.
Literature review
A literature review is a critical and systematic analysis of the existing body of literature (published and unpublished materials) on a specific topic. it summarizes the current state of knowledge, identifies research gaps, evaluates the credibility of sources, and synthesizes information from various sources to present a coherent and comprehensive understanding of the topic. A literature review is valuable for readers who seek an in-depth understanding of the subject without having to review each individual source.
Student project
Student project refers to articles written by students in all degrees (bachelor, master, and doctor) as a full or partial requirement of final examination or graduation. Recently, universities in the world have applied publication as a requirement that their students must fulfill to complete their study. This journal takes a responsibility to help the students to get their articles published as long as they adhere to the requirements of both their university and this journal.
Review Process
Every submission will go through an initial screening by the chief editor. The initial screening aims to ensure that the manuscript has fulfilled the minimum requirements as follows:
- The manuscript has fewer than 20% similarity with any other papers;
- The manuscript has fewer than 30% AI-generated content;
- The topic of the manuscript falls within the scope and focus of the journal;
- The manuscript contributes to the body of knowledge;
- The manuscript has properly cited reputable sources in the APA style; and
- The manuscript has been well-written in English in proper length.
When a manuscript fulfills the minimum requirements, the corresponding author will be notified to proceed with the article processing charge after the manuscript is reviewed and accepted. The manuscript will be reviewed by (an) assigned editorial reviewer(s) for:
- Validity and reliability of the methods;
- Trustworthiness;
- Logic and depth of analysis; and
- Referencing
Authors are required to make major and/or minor revision or correction based on the reviewers’ recommendations. This review does not aim to find reasons for rejecting a manuscript but to encourage the authors to refine and revise their manuscripts for quality.
The initial screening can take 2 weeks to 1 month while the review process may take longer, approximately 3-6 months. Authors can recommend (a) reviewer(s) by contacting the chief editor. Recommended reviewer(s) must come from different affiliations and is/are experts in the topic of the manuscript. If authors decide to recommend (a) reviewer(s), the chief editor must be contacted along with the submission process.
Article Processing Charge
The article processing charge only applies to Indonesian authors. The payment must be made between the initial screening and review stage. Authors will be notified through email/system and payment should be made within one week after the notification. Article processing charge varies according to the type of submission:
- Original article: IDR. 250.000
- Literature review: IDR. 350.000
- Student project: IDR. 400.000
The payment will be leveraged for review, journal management and maintenance, copyediting, layout, publication, and indexing. The details of the payment will be sent to the corresponding author along with the notification.
